Preparation
I work from the conviction that no one needs to be “fixed.” I trust in our innate, intuitive wisdom that urges each of us toward recognition and acceptance of our wholeness. We are all in different places along that path, and the work we do together is simply one point along the way.
I strive to create an open, welcoming and dogma-free container where whatever arises can be met with curiosity, compassion and humor.
Healing and transformation happen in relationship, with trust, curiosity and respect as guiding principles. I offer one-hour preparation sessions during which we can explore your intentions for psychedelic exploration as well as practical considerations and protocols intended to reduce risk and support the experience.
Whether you are curious about psychedelic exploration or have considerable experience, I will meet you where you are and hold with respect wherever—or whomever—you may be at this time in your life.
Come as you are. That is enough.
Thoughtful preparation can help you approach a psychedelic experience with greater clarity, agency and intention. It is an opportunity to slow down, ask questions and consider what it is you would like, and why you have brought yourself to this place. It’s also an opportunity to practice not knowing—to find a place where it’s okay to be still, to listen, to not try to do anything, to just be.
Preparation is a collaboration. I will ask you to come with your own ideas and questions about what you would like from our time together. In turn, I will share what I have learned over the years from my training and teachers about preparing the mind and body and cultivating greater awareness and agency during a psychedelic experience.
Preparation may include:
- Exploring your intentions and working with expectations
- Discussing concerns, fears or questions
- Understanding what you may encounter during a psychedelic experience
- Techniques utilizing the breath, body, attention and spirit to prepare for the journey
- Considering set (your mindset, emotional state, intentions and expectations) and setting (the physical environment, your relationship with your guide or coach, music and more)
- Discussing practical risk-reduction, agreements and safety considerations
- Developing familiarity with the structure and protocols surrounding the experience
- Exploring ways of relating to difficult or unexpected material should it arise
Preparation cannot determine what a psychedelic experience will be, nor is that the goal. Rather, it can help create conditions in which you can meet the experience with greater awareness and agency.
Thoughtful preparation also includes attention to risk reduction—considering set and setting, agreements, boundaries and practical factors that can help create conditions for a safer experience.
