What Is A Psilocybin Journey?
A psilocybin mushroom journey is often described as deeply profound yet “ineffable” or difficult to put into words.
Rather than a cure or treatment for something, it might better be described as an encounter with, or deepening into, what it means to be human, to be alive. When approached with respect and care, this encounter can lead to shifts in how we perceive ourselves and the world and can have positive impact on our lives.
During a psilocybin experience, the journeyer will typically sit or lay down in a comfortable position with eyeshades on while listening to carefully curated music.
The experience itself varies from person to person though many describe the psychedelic journey as a dream-like state where thoughts, images, sensations, memories and emotions emerge and flow together, often blending in curious ways with the flow of the music. This “dream” seems to follow a kind of logic, as if gravitating toward what is most salient in a person’s experience, sometimes resulting in the resolution of or clarity around unresolved life events or emotions. It can be transformative, even blissful and euphoric-but it is not always easy. The journey can be intense, uncomfortable and downright scary at times, as it is essentially the process of becoming truly intimate with oneself, with life and even with death. Therefore, the decision to seek psilocybin treatment for healing and self-discovery should be carefully considered and prepared for with the support of an experienced psychedelic facilitator.
When approached with patience, respect and some humility, what we may find on the other side of mushroom healing experiences is an expanded capacity for feeling, expressing, tolerating, creating, connecting and for being human; in other words, we may become more open to love.
